Titan Lodge
Project: Sub-consultants for construction of resort center.
Location: Bishoftu, Ethiopia Built up area: 3,800 sq.m Client: Meskerem Debru Project completion: 2014 Project cost: $60 million BIR (only concrete frame structural) This luxury lodge is located on the picturesque banks of Babo Gaya crater-lake in Bishoftu. An infinity pool along the edge of an escapement is one particularly conspicuous feature of the compound. SVArchitects, a South African A&E firm drew up the design, while ZIAS undertook structural engineering for the lodge complex. The building blocks, housing spacious bedrooms and restaurants, are made of a combination of cobble masonry, wood paneling and sheer concrete. All of the buildings are no more than 2-stories high, with luxuriously sized rooms with double doors looking out onto the stunning vista. A labyrinthine courtyard covered with vines and textured with cobblestoned facades connects the different buildings. Once it is complete, this hidden getaway will attract weekend vacationers from urban centers that surround Bishoftu, including Addis Ababa and Adama. |
